Chester von Churwalden is a large three year old German Shepherd. He is a gentle giant and gets along with everyone. Chester is so handsome in a very classic way. He just arrived from Bakersfield, squished in the back of a truck with 6 other German Shepherds. This is a regular occurrence; because of the dedication of one of our tireless volunteers, week after week truck loads of incredible German shepherds are driven down to Los Angeles - to safety and a new life. Last month 1,700 animals were killed in Bakersfield. Tragically, it goes unnoticed except for a handful of volunteers struggling to save a few. Chester was one of the very lucky ones thanks to a staff that still tries to save some of the most outstanding dogs. Everywhere we take the Bakersfield dogs - vet hospitals, boarding kennels - people always comment how these dogs are different, how they are outstanding. I guess it is because they were the lucky few that got picked from among thousands. Chester has no idea, he is just happy to be out of there!
